FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Where are the doves available?

As our doves reside in clean, safe and comfortable lofts located in Ossett, West Yorkshire they are available for special occasions in and around the Yorkshire area.

Q. How far can the doves fly?

Our doves are capable of flying for many miles, weather permitting. We only allow our doves to fly within a 50 mile radius of their home loft. This is to ensure their safety and allow them ample time to fly home before dusk. Our doves can fly up to 60 miles an hour and will usually beat our handler home.

Q. What happens to the doves after they are released?

Our doves are trained to fly back to their home loft. Once released, the doves will circle the release site several times to get their bearings and then make their way home. When they arrive home they are fed and allowed to rest.

Q. How do the doves know where "home" is?

Nobody really knows, but well trained doves can navigate 100's of miles to find their way home.

Q. We do not want to hold the doves.

There are no rules to say you have to hold a dove. If you do not wish to release a dove by hand, you can opt to release a dove directly from an appropriately decorated basket. If you feel you are unable to use either of these options our dove handler can release the dove(s) for you. The choice is entirely yours - it's your day after all.

Q. Where and when can doves be released?

The doves can be released at just about anytime and anywhere you choose (within a 50 mile radius of their loft), but there are three restrictions: -

1. We do not release our doves any later than sunset. This is to ensure that they have enough daylight to navigate their way home safely.

2. We never release our doves indoors.

3. We will not release our doves in extreme bad weather, such as heavy rain, strong winds, snow, fog. We reserve the right to cancel the dove release. We will not jeopardize the health and well being of our doves. If we cancel the release due to bad weather, we will promptly return all payment made.

Q. As the doves fly overhead, will they leave droppings on the guests?

The chance of this is minimal as certain steps are taken with a special diet to prevent any "accidents". Doves do not generally mess when flying.

Q. Will the dove make a mess on me if I hold it?

Our dove handler will ensure that you are holding the dove in such a way to minimise the chance of this happening. A well-trained and calm dove should never "deposit" while being held.

Q. Are the doves messy?

No, actually our doves are very clean. Our doves love to bathe regularly; their feathers are pure white and have a clean satin appearance.

Q. How many doves make up a release?

The choice is yours. For a funeral or a memorial, one white dove is a popular choice. For a wedding you may choose to have two white doves, one for the bride and one for the groom to release together. You could release a flock of a dozen doves or more to make a real impact on the day.
